How can we know God? No one has ever seen God because he is invisible, but God has shown himself to us by sending his son Jesus as the messiah (or Christ) of the Jewish people and the saviour of all nations. Through Jesus we learn the truth about the love and mercy of God for broken and sinful human beings.
The Son is the image of the invisible God. (Col 1:15)
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, (Heb 1:3)
So if you want to know about God, about the meaning of life, why the universe is the way it is and what hope there can be for us you must meet Jesus. Jesus is is who and what church should be all about. Knowing Jesus is a journey, an adventure, and our desire as a church is to be constantly growing and learning what it means to follow him.
How can we know Jesus? Well, Jesus has promised to meet us in the gathering of his disciples. So in the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the wine, as we read the gospels, as we seek him in prayer and as we obey his commands – he will meet with us. Then the challenge is not how to know God but how to respond to the love God has shown us in his son through a life of worship.
